SinoFresh Healthcare Protects Sinusitis Treatment Innovation with Help from TKHR
SinoFresh

If you are one of the 37 million Americans who suffer from chronic sinusitis or rhinosinusitis each year, you have likely tried everything on the market to alleviate the associated symptoms. However, research has shown that attacking the cause of sinusitis may prevent the symptoms from occurring in the first place. Recent medical reports have confirmed that nasal mold and bacteria are the predominant source of chronic sinus inflammation.

A Florida based company, SinoFresh Healthcare, Inc. (SFHC), has developed a novel therapy that targets the primary cause of sinusitis: inflammation caused by molds and bacteria. Its signature product, SinoFresh™ Nasal & Sinus Care, is the first over-the-counter antiseptic nasal spray proven to kill germs and reduce molds responsible for chronic sinus distress.

But don’t confuse SinoFresh™ brand with other products commonly seen on the grocery store shelf. SinoFresh™ Nasal & Sinus Care is not an antihistamine that combats the allergy; it is an antiseptic that attacks the mold and fungus that inhabit the nasal passages. SinoFresh™ Nasal & Sinus Care has no direct competitors. Saline nasal sprays only cleanse the nasal passages, while prescription nasal sprays reduce swelling due to allergies. Neither have the antiseptic, bactericidal, and fungicidal properties that are characterized by SinoFresh™ nasal spray. SinoFresh™ nasal spray is also non-habit forming and has had no serious side effects reported to date.

SFHC was founded in 1999 by CEO and Chairman Charles Fust. SFHC holds many patents and patent applications on its innovative pharmaceutical technology. “TKHR has been involved with SinoFresh™ from the beginning and it has been both interesting and rewarding to have watched the company grow,” said Jim Kayden, a partner with TKHR. SFHC is also involved in the research and development of therapies for chronic respiratory disorders. SFHC relies upon a distinguished panel of medical experts and a management team experienced in the bio-pharmaceutical arena.

With so many nasal sprays on the market, the protection of SinoFresh™ intellectual property is vital in preserving the value of the product and company. The attorneys at TKHR provide patent and trademark protection to SFHC, which ensures their products a secure position in the marketplace. For example, TKHR has drafted, prosecuted, and successfully obtained global patent protection for the SinoFresh™ product. Specifically, three U.S. Patents have been issued to support the “Composition For Freshening Nostrils And Sinus Cavities.” In addition, three other relevant U.S. patents are pending. Further, TKHR continually works with SFHC to obtain and maintain trademark registration and protection for its SinoFresh™ products and other compositions for the nasal and sinus cavities. "TKHR emphasizes the importance in protecting SinoFresh™ trademarks and the value this creates when implementing SFHC’s business objectives,” said TKHR attorney Cynthia Lee.

The future for SFHC is very promising. SFHC’s 2003 net sales were up to approximately $1,830,000 from $27,000 in 2002. “We are very encouraged by the tremendous consumer response to the product,” said Charles Fust. “Clearly, a lot of people are understanding and embracing our root cause approach to healthier sinuses” he added. The increase in net sales is attributed to the expansion of SFHC’s retail distribution network, its aggressive marketing efforts, and word-of-mouth endorsements from satisfied SinoFresh customers. SinoFresh™ Nasal and Sinus Care is currently available in Wal-Mart, Walgreens Drug Stores, Rite Aid, Eckerd Drugs, CVS, Publix supermarkets, and other drug, grocery, and mass merchandise retailers.
